THIS WEEK ON LAKE JOCASSEE
JUNE 1 2020
It’s the light. The light on Lake Jocassee alone is enough to visit here, to move here, to live here. It’s a painter’s place, a poet’s. This morning early I took two hikers up to the Foothills Trail access at Laurel Fork Falls. As we turned into Laurel Fork Creek from the main channel of the upper lake, it was the light that drew everyone’s attention. The creek leads to a small basin before it turns sharply towards the grandeur of Laurel Fork Falls. It is this small basin that captures light like no other place on Lake Jocassee, especially in the early morning and late afternoon. The boat goes into a drift, the conversation becomes silent. All senses are absorbed by the light.
Eagle Report. The eaglets are standing tall on the nest, surely ready to fledge. We’ve been watching parent birds coming and going as well, tending to the young’uns.
Swimmer’s Report. Summer is here! Let the sublime Lake Jocassee swimming season begin! ~B
