WOOD THRUSH INTERRUPTION: I like to go to the lake shore early in the morning, to be there when the night’s darkness starts to yield. To get there requires driving through some very deep and dark woods that surround the lake, and there lies the problem. The song of the Wood Thrush. It is so rich and melodic that it seems to almost echo through the forest and is so lovely as to require an immediate stop along the way. My question is why are they singing this time of year? They have long since finished their courting and nesting season, so it is hard to believe it is not just for me. To ease my mind in these troubled times, to start my day with joy and wonder. That must be it. ~B
