It's not that I don't love crowds....
that come here on weekends to enjoy the cool water and fresh mountain air of Jocassee on a hot summer’s day. I do, really, despite the litter left most everywhere we humans can get to. We are a flawed species, after all. But oh, the weekdays. Even in the middle of summer, in this setting considered now as one of the world’s top outdoor destinations, it is still quiet. If you come here to experience Jocassee, the profound silence of the place, the wildness that is at its core, then by all means come from Monday through Thursday, before the weekend crowds arrive, with all their joy and distractions.
BLOOM REPORT. The rosebay rhododendrons are still blooming beautifully, more so now in the upper lake. In particular, the ride up the Horsepasture River is a wonder, and the swimming at the base of the Foothills Trail footbridge is just right, mixing the cold Horsepasture water with the less frigid lake water. It’s a perfect temperature.
